The Academy of the Sacred Heart is a Catholic, independent, college preparatory school for girls in Prekindergarten through Grade 12. Founded in 1887 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart, the school shares a tradition and a commitment to Christian education today with an international Network of schools in 44 countries. The school is governed by a Board of Trustees composed of both lay and religious members.

Little Hearts, a separate Early Learning Center for Toddler and Nursery girls is located on the Mater Campus.

Each applicant for admission to the Academy of the Sacred Heart is given careful consideration. Applications should be submitted by January to be assured of timely processing. To begin the admission process, parents should:

Complete and return the Application and Records Release Forms with the required fee to the Admission Office.

  • Schedule a campus visit for applicant and parent (Open House or campus tour by appointment).
  • Schedule student classroom visit
  • Schedule appropriate testing determined by grade level:

PK - 4th grade applicants are required to have an Intellectual Assessment (Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence III or Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - Fourth Edition.)

5th - 12th grade applicants are required to have achievement testing administered at the Academy of the Sacred Heart or other ISAS school.

The Admission Office will:

  • Request transcript of grades, most recent standardized test scores and teacher recommendation form(s) from applicant's current school
  • Conduct preschool classroom observation

Students entering pre-kindergarten should be 4 years old by August 31st.

Students entering kindergarten should be 5 years old by August 31st.

The Admission Committee reviews each applicant's completed file. Parents will be notified of admission decisions according to the schedule of dates set by the ISAS schools in New Orleans. The Academy of the Sacred Heart admits academically qualified students without regard to race, color, religious preference, national or ethnic origin.

Financial Aid and Scholarship

Meeting the cost of an independent school education can be challenging in today's world. The Academy of the Sacred Heart's financial assistance program awards grants to qualified families who demonstrate need. Guidelines provided by the School and Student Service for Financial Aid, which is affiliated with NAIS, are used in determining the amount of each grant. Students receiving financial aid must meet the regular admission requirements of the school. In addition, several partial are available to students who meet certain criteria. Tuition Tax Deduction

Beginning January 1, 2009, the State is allowing up to a $5,000 deduction (not a credit) per child for the cost of private school tuition.  Click here for details.
