| Cardinals Go Green! |
The Environmental Club has been working with an organization called Green Light New Orleans this year, and we have recently started a branch called Green Light Sacred Heart. The goal of Green Light New Orleans is to reduce the city's carbon footprint and help people understand the human impact on our environment by going to people's homes and replacing their light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). The Club will be volunteering with GLNO and are going to be more involved in the fund raising aspect of the organization.

Academy of the Sacred Heart Upper School students attended Medical School last week. They were challenged and exposed to a variety of clinical skills that first year medical students learn. The girls participated in "Hands on" activities ranging from listening to heart and lung sounds to practicing with laparoscopy surgical tools. Students were introduced to the LSUHSC Human simulators that place LSUHSC above and beyond other Medical Schools in the Nation.

Sacred Heart/NOCCA Vocal Music Students Accepted to Auditions at Top National Arts Schools |
|
The New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) is proud to announce that two Sacred Heart students in their Music Department: Vocal Division have been selected to the next rounds of auditions at the top music conservatories in the country.
Senior, Emma Caffrey, was selected by the Juilliard School, while fellow senior, Ashley Milanese, was selected by both The Juilliard School & Curtis Institute of Music.
The Curtis Institute of Music (Philadelphia, PA) educates and trains exceptionally gifted young musicians for careers as performing artists on the highest professional level. One of the world's leading music schools, Curtis provides full-tuition scholarships to all of its students, ensuring that admissions are based solely on artistic promise. Admission is highly selective, and enrollment is small--about 160 students per year, based on the musicians needed for a symphony orchestra, opera department, and select programs in piano, organ, harpsichord, composition, and conducting. The Juilliard School (New York, NY) has set this country's standard for education in the performing arts since its 1905 founding. Juilliard's student body is drawn from 47 states and represented by 50 foreign countries, with its alumni among the best known and respected artists worldwide. |

You Gotta' Have Faith
View the NFL Play 60 winner video HERE
Academy of the Sacred Heart second-grader Wesley Warren demonstrated her faith in the Saints when she entered the National Football League's Play 60 Super Kid contest and beat out 20,000 children across the nation to become the finalist. She is the only girl to win the contest in the competition's three year history which is part of the NFL's initiative to help encourage fitness and reduce childhood obesity. When the NFL called to tell her that she was the finalist, Wesley screamed and did the "winner dance" with her Mom to celebrate. She and three other lucky people will travel to Miami from February 2nd through February 8th for the Superbowl. Wesley will be a junior spokesperson for the NFL and will hand off the game ball to the referees. She will be on the field for some festivities during the game, and will have several media spotlights with the Cartoon Network and the NFL!

Wesley earned her title by answering the following questions:
1. Which NFL player inspires you to be fit and why?
Drew Brees is the NFL player who most inspires me to be fit because he has done so much to help my city, New Orleans. The Saints have made me realize how important team work is and how sometimes you have to work really hard for a long, long, long time to get what you want. My Mom and Dad think the Saints will go to the Superbowl, and with Drew Brees, I think so too. He is SAINTSATIONAL! (My mom told me to say that)
2. Using your personal goals stories or experiences, tell us how you stay active and healthy?
Drew Brees and the Saints have made me and my friends want to play outside with each other and enjoy our beautiful city. My family always watches the Saints game, and after each win we go to the park to celebrate.
